Established in 1980, the David A. Johnston U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) Cascades Volcano Observatory (CVO) monitors volcanic activity in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

Data Availability#

Approximately 35,000 paper drum and ink records from 1980 to 1991. These include recordings of dozens of volcanic eruptions and significant earthquake sequences at Mount St. Helens. Many of the records have been scanned.
